Independent pharmacies play a key role in patient and community health.

Astrup Companies strives to offer five-star pharmacy care for all by being innovators in independent pharmacy care. This innovative spirit and passion have led to the development of seven companies—and a foundation—that work to help independent pharmacy owners, across the nation, overcome the ever-evolving challenge of running their business and providing excellence in patient care.

Located in Mendota Heights, Minnesota, Sterling Specialty Pharmacy removes the barriers independent pharmacies face when developing an in-house specialty practice. Sterling Specialty Pharmacy offers nationwide programs that allow pharmacists to expand their services while maintaining personal relationships with their patients.

Located in Austin, Minnesota, Smart-Fill was built to help independent pharmacies across the country thrive with the buying power of a chain, the ease of single-source payment, and the back-office technology services that enable pharmacy owners to focus on serving their customers.

Sterling340B was created when Astrup Companies recognized that there were few resources to help independent contract pharmacies navigate the federal 340B program. Even among independent pharmacies, there are broad differences in the best way to operate a 340B contract program. Sterling340B is committed to helping independent pharmacies to understand how the 340B program could impact their day-to-day operations and help maximize their profitability.

IHPN was established to provide a volume-driven purchasing solution for independent long-term care and closed-door pharmacies. It prides itself on transparency and flexibility. IHPN helps members understand what they are truly paying on brand and generic prescriptions and provides ongoing business support to keep members on the front edge of business practices in this niche segment.

The Astrup Family Foundation is a private, family foundation that was established by Corrine Astrup and her four children: Ann Astrup, Chris Astrup, Dan Astrup, and Susan Astrup Lundquist. The foundation is made possible by the success and legacy of Leonard and Corrine Astrup, which began with the profitable drugstore chain that was founded by Leonard in 1952. The goal of the Astrup family is to give money annually toward supporting honorable programs that affect individuals and communities nationwide, but with a primary focus in the Midwest and the communities in which the business was built.
